MEXICO -- The Village of Mexico is still trying to recover from a Hollywood-movie type crash.
Wednesday night, police were chasing a stolen car when they say the driver went off the road, over a creek, and crashed into the village office. It happened, near the corner of State Route 104 and Route 41.
CNY Central spoke with Mexico's mayor, Terry Grimshaw, Thursday afternoon. He says the crash did well over $100,000 worth of damage. An insurance adjuster came to check out the building Thursday. A structural engineer will be there Friday to investigate the integrity of the building.
The village offices are closed right now. Village officials are hoping to be able to stay in their building, since all the records, phones, and computers are there. However, the Town of Mexico has offered some of its office space to the village if that's not possible.
Charges against the driver, 34-year-old Leif Adkins from Pennsylvania, are still pending.
