FULTON -- As of 10:00 a.m., places like Fulton, Phoenix, and Pennellville in southern Oswego county have about 32.5" of snow on the ground.
As of 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, with main routes of travel and most secondary streets cleared and passable. Drivers are still urged to use caution due to limited visibility at intersections due to piled snow. The city of Fulton is was placed under a "Snow Emergency" on Monday with hazardous travel conditions.

A travel advisory is also in effect for the Town of Hannibal in Oswego County. Town Supervisor Ron Greenleaf says road conditions are extremely hazardous due to the heavy snowfall. The town is asking drivers to avoid traveling on town roads while crews work to clear the snow. “The highway crews are having a difficult time clearing roads due to the amount of snow falling and low visibility,” Supervisor Greenleaf said. “The roads are extremely hazardous. If people must travel, we’re asking them to use extreme caution, and to avoid parking on town roads.” The advisory is in effect through this afternoon.
As expected last night, a general snowfall gave between 1-4" of accumulation between 9pm and 2am. After this system moved away, the lake effect snow kicked into high gear with localized accumulations that become impressive, especially north of the Route 31 corridor and into southern Oswego and extreme northern Cayuga counties.
If you were watching Weekend Today in Central New York Sunday morning, I specifically targeted this area as the bulls eye of heavier snow. This turned out to be perfect placement, although my forecast for exact amounts were too low. Total accumulations will exceed 24” for sections of southern Oswego county and extreme northern Cayuga county today.
Elsewhere, closer to the Syracuse area, accumulations were in the 3-5" range for the city and suburbs. Auburn also received about 4". Further southbound, much of Cortland, Chenango, Madison and Tompkins counties only received about 1-3" of total snowfall.
It's amazing to see how lake effect snow can paralyze parts of the area, while leaving others unscathed. Total accumulations will range from as little as 1" near Ithaca to over 24" or so near Fulton, Phoenix, Fair Haven and Pennellville. How are you coping with the snow? Did you get hit hard?
