Syracuse taxpayers will shell out $375 thousand to settle a harassment suit filed by a female Syracuse Police officer.

The Syracuse Common Council approved the settlement with Kimberly Calverase today after discussions behind closed doors in executive session. After approving the $375 thousand payout, Councilor Kathleen Joy who sponsored the legislation said she could not discuss details of the agreement.

In 2008, CNY Central was first to report the lawsuit. In papers filed against the City of Syracuse at the time, Calverase claimed she was discriminated against and shamed on the job after she became pregnant with the child of a superior officer. She claimed the man requested she have an abortion and when she refused, Calverase stated she was harassed and retailated against by being denied a promotion and a loss of overtime hours. In the lawsuit, the female officer said her complaint with Internal Affairs was ignored.
