BROWNVILLE (AP) -- Authorities say a fatal crash on a rural upstate road went unnoticed for nearly six hours before a New York State Police captain came upon the accident scene.
Troopers say Capt. Darrin Pitkin of the state police Watertown barracks was driving on Route 53 in Jefferson County around 7 a.m. Monday when he noticed a car in a wooded area about 20 feet off the road.
A man's body was found several feet from the vehicle. Troopers say the driver has been identified as 53-year-old Albert Buker of Glen Park.
Police say it appears Buker's car crashed into a tree, ejecting him from the vehicle.
A person living near the accident scene says she was awakened around 12:45 a.m. Monday by a loud noise, but didn't see any signs of an accident.
