ELMIRA (AP) -- Jury deliberations have begun in the manslaughter trial of an upstate New York man charged with causing a woman's death in an explosion at a methamphetamine lab last year.

The Star-Gazette of Elmira reports that a Chemung County jury deliberated for about three hours Wednesday without reaching a verdict in the trial of 52-year-old Brion Peters of Millerton. Deliberations are scheduled to resume Thursday.

Peters was charged with manslaughter and unlawful manufacture of meth in last May's fiery death of 20-year-old Kanisha Wood of Elmira.

Authorities say Peters had put a plastic container of liquid camping fuel on a wood stove at a rural cabin where he was making meth. Officials say his actions sparked the explosion and fire that killed Wood.

Gary Varlan, who owned the cabin, pleaded guilty in December to manslaughter.
