UTICA -- The man accused of killing Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Kurt Wyman has been found guilty.
The verdict came in against Christian Patterson Thursday afternoon in Oneida County Court. A jury found him guilty on all charges, including aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and harassment.
Police were called to Patterson's house on Knoxboro Road in Knoxboro last June when he threatened to kill his live-in girlfriend. She was able to escape, but a standoff continued for several hours. Officers eventually hit Patterson with non-lethal bullets. That's when Deputy Wyman moved in to try to take Patterson into custody. Investigators say Patterson was able to regain control of his gun and shot Wyman in the neck. Officers fired back, seriously injuring Patterson.
Wyman's wife Lauren gave birth to a baby girl shortly after his death. Wyman is also survived by his young son.
The aggravated murder charge against Patterson carries a possible sentence of life without parole.
