FAYETTEVILLE -- The Fayetteville-Manlius girls cross country team continues to garner national recognition.

The team which won the national girls cross country championship last December was recognized by ESPN for its achievement at a special ceremony held at the high school Friday morning.

For the success of its athletic programs, ESPN has ranked Fayetteville-Manlius the fourth best sports school in the country.

Head coach Bill Aris says this year’s team had to overcome a lot of adversity in order to win the national championship.

In addition to the girls cross country team, the girls crew team was also recognized for winning its first national championship.

Other teams were recognized for their success include the boys and girls varsity tennis team which set national and state records for consecutive wins, and the Science Olympiad team which won its 9th consecutive New York state title.

Fourteen music students were also honored for earning all state honors.
