WATERLOO, SENECA CO. -- A Waterloo man is charged in a murder for hire scheme.

45-year-old Michael Hoffman, of 2736 St. Rt. 96, is charged with conspiracy and criminal solicitation.

State police say Hoffman tried to hire someone to murder one man and assault another man. Speaking with CNYCentral by phone, police say Hoffman hired the hit man due to a conflict stemming from love interest with a woman. Police say Hoffman talked about having one of the men shot and killed. Police tell us no money was ever exchanged, but there was talk of money and a weapon being used.

Hoffman was arraigned in the Town of Waterloo Court and sent to the Seneca County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear back in court on Wednesday.
