OGDENSBURG (AP) -- A re-enactment of a War of 1812 battle will be staged this weekend on the actual ground where British and American troops squared off nearly a century ago this week.
Organizers of the Battle of Ogdensburg say they expect about 100 re-enactors from the U.S. and Canada to participate in re-enactments being held Saturday and Sunday at the Fort La Presentation site on the New York side of the border.
The event commemorates the Feb. 22, 1813 attack by a British and Canadian force against the American fortification at Ogdensburg. The redcoats captured the fort after the American troops retreated to Sackets Harbor on Lake Ontario.
This year marks the start of the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the three-year-long War of 1812.
