A registered sex offender from Auburn will spend more than three years behind bars for having firearms.

57-year-old Joseph Contrera was sentenced in federal court to 37 months in prison and three years supervised release. He pleaded guilty to possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

Contrera admitted to possessing four firearms in 2010. In 1992, he was convicted of sexual abuse and other sex offenses. He spent time in jail on those charges and was required to register as a sex offender.
