TROY (AP) -- Authorities say they have a suspect in custody after a daylight shootout on an upstate New York street claimed the life of an aspiring rap artist.

Police say the gunfire erupted around 2:40 p.m. Thursday outside the victim's home in Troy. Authorities haven't released his name, but Albany-area media outlets say witnesses and friends identify him as 36-year-old Sha-kim Miller, a father of five.

Police say they took a man into custody soon after the shooting. Officials haven't said if he has been charged.

According to media reports, Miller posted one of his latest songs on his Facebook page just a few hours before he was killed.
