UTICA -- A Utica man allegedly hit another man in the head with a hammer over stolen drugs.

Utica Police say they arrested 27-year-old Mark Foder after an argument allegedly broke out over stolen drugs early Friday morning.

Foder and the victim were in a Genesee Street apartment when they began to argue.

Police say the argument turned physical and Foder allegedly hit the victim in the head with a hammer before taking him outside and leaving him there. Another person took the victim to St. Elizabeth's Hospital.

The hammer injury left the victim with a fractured skull and a brain injury which required surgery.

Police charged Foder with second degree assault, a D felony, and giving a false written statement, a misdemeanor.
