AUBURN -- The Saturday night fire that killed a woman and a toddler in Auburn has been ruled accidental.

The fire broke out Saturday night at 26 Greenview Circle, off Clark Street on Auburn's north side and claimed the lives of 38-year-old Rachel Harris-Curione and 2-year-old Averyana Dale.

The investigation conducted by the Auburn Police Department and Auburn Fire Department determined that the fire accidentally started in the kitchen area on top of the stove where a combustible item came into contact with an electric stove burner, that had been either inadvertently left on or had failed to cool sufficiently.

The fire is not deemed to be suspicious in nature.

Police say the preliminary autopsy determined that both Curione and Dale died of smoke inhalation from a combustible material. Additional tests are being performed regarding the autopsies, but results are not expected to be released for several weeks.
