ITHACA -- With the St. Patrick's Day holiday almost here, police are planning ahead.

The Ithaca Police Department says it will have a "substantial number" of patrols out this Saturday looking for drunk drivers. St. Patrick's Day is known for big parties around Central New York, and can create dangerous situations on the road.

Ithaca officers will be on duty during various hours throughout the weekend. The department says the extra patrols will be solely focused on finding those drunk drivers.

Officers are reminding people to plan ahead themselves for St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Choose a designated driver, or plan to get a cab or bus wherever you are going.

The extra patrols are paid for through the Tompkins County STOP-DWI Program.
