LERAY, JEFFERSON COUNTY -- A Jefferson County woman is dead after the car she was riding in was hit head on by another vehicle, according to State Police.
It happened Sunday around 6:35 p.m. on State Route 3 in the Town of LeRay. That's right at Fort Drum.
Donavin-Scott Castro, 20, of Watertown, was driving east on State Route 3 and was following another car. Both vehicles tried to pass two other eastbound vehicles, according to police.
The vehicle driven by Castro was unable to make the pass in time and hit an oncoming vehicle, according to police.
Jennifer Runkles, 27, of Watertown was killed. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her husband, Justin Runkles, said police.
Justin Runkles is in critical condition at Samaritan Medical Center.
Three other people were in Castro's vehicle at the time of the crash. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to police.
