OSWEGO -- Asbestos has been discovered in one Oswego County office.

County leaders say low levels of asbestos have been found in ceiling tiles in the older section of the Oswego County Department of Social Services building. County officials say the tiles pose no health threat unless they are damaged or moved.

County Administrator Philip Church says testing determined the building is still safe for employees and the public. Materials with more than one percent asbestos need to be regulated by the federal government. The ceiling tiles tested positive for less than two percent.

Church says the tiles were tested based on an employee's concern. Tests of the air within the office show no contamination.

The county is now looking at maintenance records for all county facilities to see if any other buildings could be affected.
