ALBANY (AP) -- Twenty-three mayors and town supervisors from Buffalo to Long Island are endorsing a bill backed by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to fight prescription drug abuse.

The bill aims to curb the black market for prescription drugs by creating an online database as prescribers and pharmacists report each prescription written for a patient.

Among the local officials backing the plan are Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone, Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan and Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.
