SYRACUSE -- Imagine a car that can travel more than 1800 miles on just one tank of gas.
Some local students from Cicero North Syracuse High School have actually designed such a car and it could win them national recognition.
The students from the school’s engineering technology class are heading down to Houston to compete in the Shell Eco Marathon.
The national event highlights alternative energy projects from some of the best high school and college students in the country.
The car designed by the Cicero North Syracuse students runs on Hydrogen Fuel Cells.
CNS senior Michael Ann Baker helped design and build the car. Baker says Hydrogen Cells are the fuel of the future.
"I hope within the next ten years Hydrogen will be out all across the country and that is what everyone is going to be driving because it's clean energy," Baker says.
This is the third year in a row students from CNS have qualified for the Eco Marathon.
In addition to a car that runs on Hydrogen Fuel Cells CNS students have also designed an electric car this year.
