SHORTSVILLE, NY (AP) -- Authorities have charged three 18-year-olds from Maryland with trying to take an upstate New York teenage girl back home with them after one of the men met her online.

State police say the Ontario County Sheriff's Office issued an Amber Alert Monday morning for a 16-year-old girl from the village of Shortsville who was believed to have gotten into a car with three men.

Several minutes later, a state trooper pulled the vehicle over on Interstate 86 near Bath in neighboring Steuben County.

Troopers say the girl rode a school bus to school and got into the men's vehicle, with plans to go with them to Maryland. Police took her back home.

The three Maryland men, two from Columbia and one from Elkridge, were charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
