SARATOGA SPRINGS (AP) -- The chairman of a public housing agency in upstate New York has been ousted after months of controversy over an executive's salary and bedbug infestations at an apartment building.

Saratoga Springs Mayor Scott Johnson said Tuesday night that Dennis Brunelle won't be reappointed to a second five-year term as chairman of the board for the Saratoga Springs Housing Authority. Brunelle's term ended Sunday.

The housing authority oversees federally subsidized housing in Saratoga, including the 176-unit Stonequist Apartments, where bedbug infestations became public late last year. Residents had to petition the city council before an exterminator was hired to do something about the situation.

Brunelle also came under fire for the $152,000 salary being paid to the authority's executive director, more than double the salary paid when the position was filled in 2006.
