WAMPSVILLE, MADISON CO. (AP) -- A 52-year-old former Syracuse-area man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing a man whose skeletal remains were found near an Oneida creek in 2010.

Chauncey Winchell was convicted in February of first-degree murder, robbery and other charges for the killing of 41-year-old Mark Murray. Madison County prosecutors said Winchell shot Murray twice in the head while stealing Murray's car, cash and other property.

Winchell was serving time for robbery in Arizona when he was charged last year with Murray's killing.

Local media report that Winchell's lawyer said after sentencing Wednesday that he'll appeal the convictions.
