GROTON, TOMPKINS CO. -- A bridge in Groton is closed indefinitely after cracks were found in some of the trusses that support the bridge.

The Groton City Road Bridge is closed effective immediately to all traffic.

John Lampman, associate civil engineer for the Tompkins County Highway Department, tells CNYCentral the cracks were found during an inspection by the State Department of Transportation on Tuesday. He says there isn't much traffic that uses the bridge. In fact, only about 150 to 170 cars use it daily, according to a 2008 report.

The detour to get around the bridge is about a mile down the road.

Lampman says no repairs are planned at this time.
