Homeowner charged with selling drugs out of house

FAYETTEVILLE -- A Fayetteville homeowner accused of selling drugs out of her home had more than 35 animals removed from her house.

69-year-old Edith Crofoot, of 201 Hobson Avenue, is charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance. DeWitt Police Sgt. Scott Kapral tells CNYCentral they executed a search warrant on April 9 after receiving multiple anonymous complaints about high traffic in and out of the home. The proximity to JD high school prompted police to act quickly.

Police say Crofoot was selling prescription drugs to young adults, including hydrocodone and morphine.

The SPCA and town code enforcement officer were called in, and 32 cats and four dogs were taken from the home. There is no word on the condition of the animals. The house was condemned because of animal and code violations.

Crofoot was arraigned and sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center in lieu of $10,000 cash or bond. She is due back in DeWitt Town Court on May 8.
