ONONDAGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE -- It's only been open for four months, but the SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College is already creating buzz across Central New York.
"I think it's perfect for a lot of venues here, they can use it for sports, they can use it for concerts," said Noel Baker, Phoenix.
He was among nearly 5,500 people packed into the arena to see Professional Championship Bull Riding and the country music group Montgomery Gentry.
"It's really exciting, I mean to finally bring country and bull riding and cowboys and country girls to Syracuse it just makes it," said Danielle Ascani, a student at Morrisville State.
Tickets for the event had been sold out for a month.
Steve Hyman, General Manager of the SRC Arena, said the venue seats up to 6,500 people but can also utilize retractable bleachers to shrink capacity to about 1,000.
Hyman said the arena's versatility makes it a tremendous asset for Central New York and beyond.
"We look at this building as regional quite honestly," Hyman said. "Our footprint goes out into as far as you can imagine within the Syracuse proper but all the way around it."
Hyman said more big events are planned for later this year.
Organizers with the Professional Championship Bull Riders Tour said they were impressed by the sell-out crowd and arena -- and said they'll be back next year.
