UTICA -- A former New York State Trooper has been indicted on charges connected to a break-in at a South Utica Home.

An Oneida County Grand Jury indicted 31-year-old Jesse Miller on one felony count of criminal mischief, two counts of misdemeanor assault, criminal trespass, and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Utica Police say Miller broke into a home on Beverly Place at the end of last year. They say Miller appeared to be drunk, and had gotten into a fight with the man who lived at the home. Police say the man hit Miller with a hammer, and Miller bit the man's face.

After Miller's arrest, his attorney said Miller was highly intoxicated when he walked home from a local bar and mistakenly went into the wrong house.

Miller was off-duty from his job as a trooper at the time of the incident. He was suspended shortly after his arrest. Miller is "no longer employed by the State Police," according to a police spokesman.
