SYRACUSE -- The public and transportation experts will discuss one of its biggest challenges Wednesday; the future of Route 81 through downtown Syracuse.

Central New Yorkers will be given a chance to hear some of the possible plans. Some of the ideas already on the table include tearing it down and building a boulevard style highway, or rerouting traffic around the city.

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner is part of a state-wide commission, appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo that should benefit Central New York as it works on this problem.

"The city has a major infrastructure needs, Onondaga County has major infrastructure needs, so I’m very hopeful that there will be money coming forward from the state to help us with that," says Mayor Miner.

Mayor Miner says she will have to work out an organized spending plan.

On Wednesday, five master improvement strategies will be outlined. The meeting with the New York Department of Transportation officials starts at 2:00 pm at the OnCenter and will last until 8:00pm.
