ALBANY (AP) -- Soldiers from a New York Army National Guard battalion are on their way to Afghanistan for a nine-month tour of duty.
The Guard says 450 soldiers have been training in Mississippi and California and began heading overseas Tuesday and Wednesday.
They're part of the Utica-based 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry, and come from Glenville, Gloversville, Ithaca, Morrisonville, Ogdensburg, Saranac Lake and Utica.
They join the rest of the 1,700 soldiers assigned to the Syracuse-based 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
