SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly sped away from deputies during an attempted traffic stop and smashed into a house.
It happened Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. along the 700 block of North Avenue.
Keith Byrd, 22, was traveling west on Galster Avenue when he passed through a stop sign at Leighton Avenue, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department. That's when a deputy tried to pull Byrd over.
Byrd turned onto Woodbury Avenue before turning east onto Craigie Street. He then lost control of his SUV while trying to turn north onto North Avenue, according to investigators.
Byrd smashed into the foundation of a home and he was taken into custody. A 16-year-old was inside the home at the time of the crash but was not hurt.
A passenger in the SUV, Mia Kadah, 24, had to be cut from the vehicle. She was transported to Upstate University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Byrd was not hurt.
Deputies on scene recovered 46.6 grams on cocaine from Byrd's vehicle.
Byrd is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday night on the following charges:
-two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree (felony)
-one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree
-unlawful fleeing from police in a motor vehicle in the 2nd degree (felony)
-aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 2nd degree
-reckless driving, speeding, and passing several stop signs after failing to comply to a traffic stop.
