LIVERPOOL -- Its been almost seventy years since Dave Detlor was wounded in action during the Battle of the Bulge, But every year on Memorial Day the Liverpool World War Two veteran remembers the same thing.
"I just remember the ones who didn't make it. The ones who didn't make it back home that's all you can think of," said Detlor.
For veterans gathered at American Legion Post 188 in Liverpool Monday, Memorial Day has a special meaning.
Vietnam Veteran Mike Savino thinks of his son who is currently serving his third tour in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division.
"I do worry about him but seeing as I got my son and now my grandson who is in the service, we are doing our part. I wish somebody else would help though," said Savino.
With many World War Two veterans now gone, American Legion posts are losing members.
Sean Singleton, a retired army Master Seargent who served tours in Bosnia and Afghanistan, says American Legion posts across the country need younger members now more than ever before.
"I would definitely like to see more of the younger generation participate because we are quickly growing to a real gap in veterans that are participating," said Singleton.
