ONEIDA COUNTY -- The Utica man suspected of murdering Jennifer Bennett in 2007 pleaded not guilty.

Craig Ingersoll, 30, was arraigned in Oneida County Court Wednesday morning where he pleaded not guilty in the murder case of Jennifer Bennett.

Ingersoll was arrested in March and charged with second degree murder and criminal sexual act.

Bennett’s body was discovered over five years ago, in January 2007, behind the Deerfield Fire House pavilion, just north of Utica.

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol previously told reporters that the arrest resulted from a "hit" from the state’s DNA database, which indicated that DNA evidence taken from Bennett’s body matched that of Ingersoll.

The judge denied bail.

Ingersoll is scheduled to be back in court on June 26 for a hearing.
