MALONE -- A 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to nine years to life in prison for stabbing his adoptive mother to death in their northern New York home last year.

The Watertown Daily Times reports that about a dozen family members were in Franklin County Court Monday for Dilan Clark's sentencing for the May 2011 slaying of 45-year-old Karen Bourdon-Clark in the family's home in the town of Constable, on the Canadian border.

He said he was sorry for what he had done and wished he could take it back. The teen pleaded guilty in April to second-degree murder.

The teen's lawyer says he'll remain in juvenile detention until he turns 18 and will spend the rest of his sentence in state prison

Bourdon-Clark was a guidance counselor at a local elementary school.
