NEW YORK -- Three Republicans are competing for the chance to take on a well-funded Kirsten Gillibrand in this fall's run for the U.S. Senate.
Attorney Wendy Long, Nassau County comptroller George Maragos and U.S. Rep. Bob Turner are on the Republican primary ballot. Turnout, usually weak in primaries, will be key, especially since the vote was moved to June from September.
Gillibrand already has an advantage with more than $9 million in campaign cash. She's also got plenty of practice running for federal office. This will be her second campaign for the Senate since she was appointed in 2009 to replace Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. She won election in 2010 to finish Clinton's term that ends this year
This time, Gillibrand's running for a full, six-year term.
Polls are open accross Central New York on Tuesday from 12:00pm to 9:00pm.
Tuesday's elections include:
--U. S. Senate (to face Kirsten Gillibrand): Attorney Wendy Long, U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, and Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos
--21st Congressional District (to face incumbent Bill Owens): Republicans Kellie Greene and Matt Doheny
--22nd Congressional District: Republicans Richard Hanna (incumbent) and Michael Kicinski (Tea Party)
--23rd Congressional District: Democrats Nate Shinagawa, Melissa Dobson, and Leslie Danks Burke
