SYRACUSE -- A major fire severely damaged a multi-family home on the southwest side of Syracuse and left several people homeless overnight.
Just after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, fire crews responded to a three story structure fire at 221 Davis Street, near South Geddes Street.
When firefighters arrived, they say the fire was heavily involved on the second floor and moved quickly to the third floor. Flames even spread to a neighboring home, which sustained some damage of its own. Extra fire engines and crews had to be called to the scene to provide additional support and manpower.
There is no word yet if the home at 221 Davis is a complete loss.
Officials say all residents of the home were able to get out safely. The local Red Cross chapter says it is assisting two of the three families affected by the fire by providing clothing, food, baby supplies, and glasses.
The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire are under investigation.
