TOWN OF DERUYTER -- Deputies conducting a follow-up in DeRuyter had a kitchen knife thrown at them by a woman they believe was on bath salts or other drugs.

Deputies were at the residence on Dugway Road around 4:00am to follow-up on an earlier trespass report involving 34-year-old Nicole Campbell and a neighbor from about two hours earlier.

Deputies say that when they arrived, Campbell was in the back yard, partially clothed, and screaming obscenities.

The yard was full of household items, windows were smashed, and, police say, the inside of the home was a mess.

Deputies believe Campbell was under the influence of Bath Salts or another drug at the time.

Deputies say her behavior continued to be erratic, but she eventually complied and accompanied deputies inside to check on a child.

As they were walking inside, deputies say she grabbed a golf club out of the yard and positioned herself to swing it at the deputies. Deputies immediately ordered Campbell to drop the club, and she complied.

Deputies then escorted her inside and a girl, a minor, appeared from another room.

Deputies say that as they began talking to Campbell and the girl, Campbell picked up a large kitchen knife from the floor and began swinging it around.

Campbell threw the knife towards the deputies and the girl, and ran in and out of another room. Deputies say they tried to take Campbell into custody but she again ran into the other room.

Deputies struggled with Campbell while placing her into handcuffs. Campbell kicked, but did not injure, one of the deputies.

Deputies say Campbell remained combative to law enforcement and responding EMS personnel.

Campbell was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with a deputy in the ambulance.

Police charged Campbell with obstructing government administration, harassment, resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment.

She was arraigned in the Town of DeRuyter and remanded to the Madison County Jail on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
