QUEENSBURY -- A 33-year-old Glens Falls man admits he broke his girlfriend's 7-week-old baby's leg by yanking on it.

David Cook pleaded guilty to assault on Wednesday and agreed to a sentence of up to 25 years in state prison. Warren County Judge John Hall noted that Cook didn't intentionally injure the child, but admitted he acted recklessly.

Warren County District Attorney Kate Hogan said the defendant was angry because he believed the baby's mother was cheating on him. Hogan said Cook pulled hard on the baby's leg because she was crying when he was changing her diaper. Cook was also charged with sexually abusing the baby.

Cook was sharing an apartment with the baby and her mother, who left the child in his care while she visited friends overnight.
