UTICA -- A Utica man was arrested Sunday night for petit larceny after he allegedly tried to have his children steal from a shop.

On Sunday night, around 9:30 p.m. Utica police say they arrested James Aldi, 41, at the Fastrac on North Genesee Street.

Police say Aldi came in to shop with his children and the clerk saw him hand the children merchandise. He then attempted to distract the clerk while the children left the store.

The clerk told police he saw the merchandise hand-off, and stopped the children when they attempted to leave the store.

Police say Aldi took the children to the back of the store, gave them merchandise, and again tried to distract the clerk.

Police charged Aldi with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, also misdemeanors.
