CORTLAND -- Cortland police continue to look for information after a man was found unconscious early Saturday morning following what appeared to be a gang-related attack.
Police in Cortland say they responded to a report of an assault on Main Street around 12:42 a.m. Saturday.
When they arrived at the scene, police say they found 25-year-old Robert Miller unconscious and unresponsive on the sidewalk after an apparent fight.
Police say they immediately began resuscitation until EMS personnel arrived and took Miller to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Miller had a critical injury to the head.
Police say they interviewed a number of people in the area of the incident and identified several witnesses.
Police located and arrested one suspect and are continuing to pursue leads and locate additional persons of interest.
Kaywon L. Pittman, of Cortland, was arrested for first degree gang assault, second degree assault, fourth degree conspiracy, and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Police say the gang-assault charge is based on evidence that there was more than one attacker. The conspiracy charge is for a planned assault. Pittman was found with cocaine in his belongings, leading to the possession charge.
Pittman was arraigned Cortland County Jail with no bail set. He is scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on August 1.
