CARMEL (AP) -- A coroner says a heart attack probably caused the death of a woman whose body was found in the middle of a suburban New York reservoir with a 6-year-old girl clinging to it.

The coroner says an autopsy revealed that Pamela Kaner, a friend of the girl's family, suffered from hypertensive heart disease. He says a heart attack is the likely cause of death pending toxicology tests.

The girl was rescued Monday when boaters heard her crying on Lake Gleneida in Carmel. She told police that the 59-year-old Kaner took her into the water and was holding her when something went wrong.

The lake, about 730 yards at its widest, is part of New York City's water supply system, and swimming there is banned.
