TOWN OF ONONDAGA -- A Town of Onondaga teen is recovering from injuries after he was hit while driving his ATV Monday night.
According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, around 9:30 p.m. 15-year-old James Otis of Bowen Drive was riding his all-terrain vehicle on the 3600 block of Cedarvale Road when he was hit by an SUV driven by his friend, 18-year-old Rosario Laframboise of Makyes Road. Deputies say Otis was riding the Polaris ATV when he lost control of it, and Laframboise was unable to stop his Dodge Ram Charger and crashed into the side of the ATV.
Police say Otis sustained multiple injuries and was airlifted by Air-1 helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. The hospital says he is currently in critical condition. Laframboise was taken by ambulance to Community General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Cedarvale Road was closed between Tanner Road and Holmes Road while police and emergency crews worked at the scene. The road has since reopened. Police say no tickets have been issued, but the crash is still under investigation.
Otis's condition was upgraded from critical to serious on Wednesday morning.
