LAFAYETTE -- A Lafayette man has been charged with reckless endangerment for allegedly pointing a laser at the Sheriff's Air-1 helicopter.

42-year-old Thomas Kurtz, from Naughton Road in the Town of Lafayette, is accused of pointing a green laser beam at the chopper several times around 9:30 Wednesday night as it was flying over the area.

The flight crew was able to pinpoint the source and notified Hancock Air Traffic Control about the incident.

Kurtz was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies without incident.

Investigators say the laser was recovered.

The suspect has been issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Lafayette Court on August 29th, 2012.

Information about the incident will be forwarded to Federal Aviation Administration officials.
