EAST SYRACUSE -- The Onondaga County Sheriff's Department has confirmed the names of the two people who died in a car crash at the intersection of Fly Road and Hartwell Avenue as 36-year-old Christina Davis and 34-year-old Jeffery Hubbard.
It happened just before 6:30 Friday evening. The imact of the crash was so intense, the engine block of the pick up truck flew out and landed against a nearby home.
It is believed the driver of the pick up truck was taking a corner, too fast, when the vehicle went out of control and crashed into a tree - shearing it in half, and coming to rest on another tree. The investigation continues.
Here is what investigators have told CNYcentral so far:
A 2006 Dodge pickup crashed drove off the roadway. Witnesses reported that the pickup was traveling south on Fly Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle as it approached the turn onto Hartwell Avenue. Unable to negotiate the turn, the pickup truck drove off the roadway, crashed into a fence and became airborne after crashing into a tree.
The truck came to rest after striking a second tree and the two occupants were trapped inside the wreckage. The truck's engine was ripped from the engine compartment and thrown into the front of the building located at 798 Hartwell Avenue. Rescue crews from the East Syracuse Fire Department responded to the scene where paramedics pronounced the driver of the vehicle dead. The passenger was extricated from the pick up truck and transported by EAVES Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital where he was also pronounced dead.
