STONY POINT, NY -- Two boaters on Lake Ontario were rescued by the Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon after their vessel began to fill up with water.
The Coast Guard says that at 1:40pm on Saturday, the Coast Guard Station in Sackets Harbor, NY, received a mayday call from a boat taking on water. The rescue crew responded, and arrived on the scene at 1:52pm. Petty Officers Garret Hodgson and Jimmy Stefanidis pulled up to the listing boat, went aboard, and began pumping water off the boat with hand pumps.
The boat began to rise up out of the water, and the officers were able to keep up with the flow of water coming in from the engine compartment. The boat crew towed the vessel to Mariner Marina in Henderson, NY.
Both boaters were wearing life jackets at the time.
