Students at Most Holy Rosary meet local dignitaries and everyday heroes, on the eleventh anniversary of Sept. 11.

SYRACUSE -- Students, faculty and staff of Most Holy Rosary Elementary commemorate the eleventh anniversary of September 11th with a reverence ceremony.
Students shook the hands of local dignitaries, and firefighters, thanking them for their daily service and sacrifices.
Teachers say many of the students were too young to remember the events of September 11, but it's still important to teach them about everyday heroes.
"That's what we try to do, is try to teach them how to care for one another," says Barbara Holzhauer, a Music teacher at the school. "We try to tell the children that there are heroes every single day, everything they do, caring for other people. There are firefighters every day in the school, helping one another."
"When my parents told me about 9/11, I was horrified, and I never want that to happen again," says Mark Vaughn, 11. He says he's grateful for this morning's service, and that he gets a good feeling from meeting the firefighters.
"When I was little, I wanted to become a firefighter so I could help people, like they do. And I still do," he says.
Most Holy Rosary is on Bellevue Avenue, and serves students kindergarten through sixth grade. This is the tenth year the school has held a remembrance ceremony for September 11.
