SYRACUSE -- Controversy continues to swirl around racy online political ads that condemn same sex marriage.

Today, Onondaga County Republican Party Chairman Tom Dadey is slamming Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner for speaking out against the ads.

On Tuesday, Miner called on New York Republican leaders to condemn them. Appearing on NBC 3 News at 5:30pm on Tuesday, Miner called the ads "abhorrent and hateful." "Shame on Mayor Miner for using a day of remembrance for those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 to launch a straw man political attack in hopes of deflecting attention away from the major scandal of her embattled Speaker Sheldon Silver and to hide from her disgraceful comments in recent weeks," Dadey said.

Dadey says Miner brought attention to the issue to "score some cheap political points."

The mailers attack Buffalo-area Republican Senator Mark Grisanti who voted in favor of legalizing gay marriage. They accuse Grisanti of switching his vote and helping to legalize gay marriage in exchange for money. The mailer depicts two men in suggestive poses. Next to the picture is text that says: "How far will a politician go to get in your pant$? For his Gay Marriage vote, Mark Grisanti received over $750,000."

The ads were circulated by the Committee to Save the Erie County Republican Party. The group has no apparent footprint online and it's unclear who is behind the group.
