SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse teenager was arrested overnight after police say he tried to rob a home, and then led officers on a chase around the city in a stolen car.

According to spokesman Sgt. Gary Bulinski, around 10:20 p.m. Thursday Syracuse Police received a call from a person on the 1600 block of Lancaster Avenue claiming that he or she was being followed by a suspicious person. That caller is said to have made it home safely with no incident.

Then at 10:28, police say they received a second call, reporting an attempted robbery of a home on Buckingham Road. A female caller told dispatchers that a male had tried to cut through a window screen, but she scared him off.

At 10:39, police received a third call, for an armed robbery near the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and Broad Street. Bulinski says a male victim was robbed of his wallet and car at knifepoint.

Around 10:50 p.m., police say the car, a white 1998 Chevrolet Prizm, was spotted near the intersection of South Salina Street and Roney Road. The suspect allegedly evaded police and drove off, and a pursuit began that lasted around 20 minutes. Bulinski says officers dropped “stop sticks” near the intersection of Thompson Road and Alpine Drive, which the suspect hit causing three of his four tires to pop.

Police say the driver made it to the 3100 block of Erie Boulevard East in DeWitt before pulling into the parking lot of a Goodyear store. He allegedly hit two police cars and injured a patrolman before taking off on foot. He was caught and arrested a short time later.

Police say the person who was arrested – a 17-year-old male – is the same suspect in all three incidents. He was not injured in the chase. Police have called a news conference for 2:30 Friday afternoon to offer more information on the arrest. No name has been given at this time.
