People in parts of northern New York can expect to hear the noise of military aircraft and explosions as Air National Guard units continue practicing live-fire training this week at the Army's Fort Drum. The training helps prepare Air Force personnel for their close air support missions that protects soldiers in close combat environments.

Training runs from Tuesday, September 18 through Friday, September 21.

New York military officials say the training exercises will take place during the afternoons and evenings as aircrews train for close air support in both day and night environments.

This month's training includes F-16 aircraft and crews from New Jersey's 177th Fighter Wing and the Vermont Air National Guard's 158th Fighter Wing. The 158th Fighter Wing from Vermont is currently preparing members for overseas deployment.

The training will continue Tuesday through Thursday, September 25-27.
