CORTLAND -- Cortland Fire Department reponded to a call for a structure fire around 1:30 Saturday afternoon after a neighbor noticed fire coming out of a Pine Street home on the City's Southside.

Deputy Chief Wayne Friedman reported that crews arrived three minutes after the alarm to find smoke coming from the entire house, with flames visible from at least one window.

Crews extinguished the blaze while other firefighters searched the home for people possibly trapped inside.  Everyone inside was safe, but a family cat died in the fire.
