UTICA (AP) -- A 59-year-old man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for sending threatening letters to four New York judges while he was an inmate.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Steven Willette of Schuyler Falls in Clinton County was sentenced Tuesday in Utica to 41 months in prison. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to a federal charge of mailing threatening communications.

Prosecutors say Willette was an inmate at Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome in October 2010 when he sent letters to a federal judge and three State Supreme Court judges. All four had been involved in his previous convictions of sexual abuse, failure to report a change in address as a sex offender, and his classification as a Level III sex offender.
