CLYMER, NY -- The man police and prosecutors believe drove from his home state of Virginia to Western New York late last week to murder a man who was once a well-liked principal in Central New York is now under arrest. U.S. Marshals have taken Anthony Robert Taglianetti into custody, one week after the murder they say he plotted. While authorities have not released a motive in the fatal shooting, sources tell News 4 in Buffalo there was a love triangle involving Taglianetti's wife, Mary Jenks Taglianetti, and Reed. Sources say Taglianetti came to WNY specifically to murder Reed after finding racy correspondences between the superintendent and Taglianetti's wife.
Police agencies from WNY to Virginia had been on the lookout for the 42-year-old in connection with the murder of 51-year-old Keith Reed. U.S. Marshals announced Friday night Taglianetti was taken into custody in VA without incident around 4 p.m. after deputies spotted his car and pulling him over. It is believed Taglianetti had been sleeping in the Shenandoah National Park to avoid detection.
Reed was murdered Friday night, though his body wasn't discovered until Monday, when a K9 unit found Reed in his lawn about 100 yards from his home. He had been shot multiple times.
Reed was a former high school principal in the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District in Chenango County. According to the Utica Observer-Dispatch, Reed left the district just last year.
