Catherine Koestner, 30, found dead August 10 at Forge Motel in Old Forge
OLD FORGE, HERKIMER COUNTY (AP) -- State police say a central New York school teacher fatally shot herself at an Adirondack motel in August, but it isn't clear if her death was a suicide or accident.
Catherine Koestner, 30, was found dead August 25, at the Forge Motel in Old Forge in Herkimer County.
Investigators released some of their findings Tuesday in a press conference.
They say the Proctor High School Math teacher died from a single shot to the head from a handgun licensed to her boyfriend, Joseph Moore, 50, from Clinton.
The couple was staying at the Forge Motel.
A motel employee heard people arguing shortly before the shooting.
Investigators say they were drinking; Koestner's blood alcohol level was above the legal limit for driving.
Moore is called a witness, but investigators say he has stopped cooperating with the case.
Police were initially investigating the matter as a homicide.
